Temporary leave of absence ends, wahoo!

5TH OCTOBER 2011

Yes, development of Fleeting Fantasy is now a go... again.

We're aiming for a Xmas release of a technically accurate demo of the game, with further embellishment continuing into early 2012.

There's a huge amount of work to get through, but we'll continue to publish new features as and when they're completed.

Thank you to all those that have offered us their moral support; it really helps with motivation.

Heightmap cropping and converting at 67%

14TH AUGUST 2011

Over two-thirds of the 1,000,000 heightmaps that make up Fleeting Fantasy's game world have now been cropped and converted.

We're averaging 30,000 heightmaps per hour, so the remainder should be completed by the beginning of next week.

There's a map page now too, so you can gain an impression of the magnitude of this unique project.

Anyone wishing to support the continued development of Fleeting Fantasy can do so by kindly donating. All proceeds will be fed back into the development of Fleeting Fantasy and Steppe.

Improving performance of Steppe

10TH AUGUST 2011

We're currently improving the performance of Fleeting Fantasy's renderer, Steppe.

For a taste of what's to come, sneak a peek at the demo.

850+ items added to FF's database!

6TH AUGUST 2011

Updates to the Web site have been slow of late; we apologise.

However, in excess of 850 items have been added to the back-end database and a handful can be viewed on the new items page.

The other big news is that sprite rendering has been 'fixed' so it's now back in. Oh, it's back in and... trees now have shadows too! Check out the demo.

Hmm... mirror-world

22ND JUNE 2011

It seems that there was a pretty fundamental error in FF's renderer, Steppe. It resulted in a mirror-world, whereby the demo was flipped about the z axis. This has [thankfully] been corrected!

The humans.txt file has been updated and there's a fancy Kohana logo in the footer now too.

Still no 'sign up' I'm afraid, though we are still working on it.

A handful of cosmetic updates

8TH JUNE 2011

There aren't a lot of notable changes with the latest release, aside from an updated demo (with new textures), the rudiments of a 'sign up' form, another screenshot and minor font changes.

We're continuing to work on implementing the 'sign up' functionality.

FF has a new layout

22ND MAY 2011

Wahoo! After a fortnight of toil, Fleeting Fantasy's old single-column layout has now been successfully replaced with this new three-column version.

We've also added a screenshot gallery, additional configurables to the live demo (including a distance fog toggle), and a detailed breakdown of Steppe's features.

The 'sign up', 'log in', and 'forgotten password' features will be implemented in the next couple of releases.

Elderly dwarf pointing

"Your path to adventure? Turn left at the next hillock..."

Heightmaps

100% of 1,000,000 (yes, one million) 256x256 greyscale heightmaps cropped and then converted from .pgm to .png!

Items

891 items added so far; 504 with an associated cost.

Features

Erm... yes, Fleeting Fantasy will have those in abundance.

Dev. Progress

Fleeting Fantasy is actively under development.

Powered by Steppe

Fleeting Fantasy uses a custom HTML5 canvas 2½D landscape renderer called Steppe.

Steppe isn't production-ready yet, but you can use it free of charge in your own projects.
